Ford Recalls 1.5 Million Vehicles Over Brake Hose and Windshield Wiper Issues
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that vehicle manufacturer Ford is recalling nearly 1.3 million sedans for brake hose safety issues and over 220,000 pickup trucks because of faulty windshield wiper arms. Ford will contact the owners of the affected vehicles in the coming weeks and provide them with more information.
Ford is recalling 1.28 million sedans that may leak brake fluid. Such leakage can cause the brake pedal to become less responsive and slow deceleration, increasing the crash risk. The brake fluid indicator light should come on, and drivers may notice a difference in the feel of the brake pedals.
The following Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ models are recalled:
2013 Fusion
2014 Fusion
2015 Fusion
2016 Fusion
2017 Fusion
2018 Fusion
2013 MKZ
2014 MKZ
2015 MKZ
2016 MKZ
2017 MKZ
2018 MKZ
Owners will receive more information about receiving a free brake jounce house replacement at authorized dealerships.
Meanwhile, Ford is also recalling 222,454 F-150 pickup trucks due to faulty windshield wiper arms that may break. This defect could reduce visibility under certain conditions and increase the risk of a crash.
Only 2021 Ford F-150 trucks are recalled; the manufacturer estimates that 1% of the recalled trucks have the defect. Ford will offer owners free inspections and windshield arm replacements, if necessary, at dealerships.
What’s Next?
Ford will send mail notification letters to impacted F-150 owners between March 27 and 31, while Fusion and MKZ vehicle owners will be contacted between April 17 and 28. Correspondence will explain how owners can bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership to replace the faulty parts free of charge.
In general, you can use NHTSA's search tool to check whether there are any active recalls for your vehicle.
