Uber Health Adds Same-day Prescription Delivery

Uber Health, the health care arm of transportation company Uber, announced its new same-day prescription delivery service on March 30. Uber Health users, including health care providers and health plans, already leverage the platform to coordinate nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) for patients. Now, they can manage prescription delivery from any pharmacy in their service areas.

Launched in 2018, Uber Health is a technology compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and focused on streamlining NEMT options to help patients—especially those in underserved and vulnerable communities—get to and from medical appointments or procedures. Transportation is an important component of one’s health care journey, so quick and effortless access to prescriptions can make getting the necessary medicine and medical supplies notably easier. Uber Health’s new delivery offering will further enable users to simplify the overall health care journey.

“From prescription delivery and NEMT today to healthy food and grocery delivery in the coming months, Uber Health remains committed to delivering a more connected care journey through a single, seamless platform.”

- Caitlin Donovan, global head of Uber Health

Many health care organizations already use Uber Health to request, manage and pay for rides 24/7 for patients, guests, employees and others. To expand its operations, Uber Health is partnering with software company ScriptDrop to facilitate deliveries through any pharmacy registered with the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs, or NCPDP, in delivery coverage areas. Uber Health users can also track when prescriptions arrive.

Takeaway

Uber Health’s new offering is meant to further improve patient experiences and health outcomes. In fact, patients are more likely to take their medications regularly if they’re delivered to their homes. Uber Health’s new offering can be a notable convenience factor for many Americans.

If you regularly need transportation for medical appointments or home delivery for prescriptions, ask your doctor if they offer Uber Health or similar services.
